Watch Out Harley-Davidson, Indian’s New Touring Bikes Are Around The Corner

Last year, Harley-Davidson overhauled the Street Glide and Road Glide with notable updates across the board. That left Indian Motorcycles’s touring bikes on the back foot. Now, as the calendar changes, the Polaris-owned brand is ready to fight back with a new range of touring bikes teased recently. Here’s what we know.

The teaser gives away practically nothing. But if you read into the details, you’ll understand what’s in store. The “Power to Roam” tagline suggests the touring intentions of the new bikes while the “new PowerPlus family” line confirms new liquid-cooled models. What clears the air furthermore are Indian’s leaked documents from February 2024.

These listed the brand’s 2025 VIN codes and included two new bikes: Chieftain PowerPlus and Roadmaster PowerPlus. Together, all of this confirms we’re about to get two new liquid-cooled touring bikes from Indian to join the Challenger and Pursuit models. The documents give away more details, too.

We can tell you each bike will have four trims–base, Dark Horse, Elite/Limited Edition, and Limited–with two engine options. The first engine will be the air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 (1,890cc) while the other will be a new liquid-cooled PowerPlus 112 (1,834cc). Power remains unknown for the latter, but the former will continue to offer 92 ponies.

2025 Indian Roadmaster And Chieftain Expected Lineup

  • Roadmaster with Thunderstroke 116 engine
  • Chieftain with Thunderstroke 111 engine
  • Roadmaster PowerPlus with new 112ci, liquid-cooled engine
  • Chieftain PowerPlus with new 112ci, liquid-cooled engine

The New PowerPlus 112 Could Be Indian’s Most Powerful Engine Yet

Diving deeper, we believe the PowerPlus 112 could be Indian’s most powerful mill yet. That’s because the title currently belongs to the PowerPlus 108. The liquid-cooled engine produces 122 horsepower and 128 pound-feet via a six-speed transmission while displacing 1,768cc. So considering the 112 has more capacity and a similar liquid-cooling setup, the output could very well be more than 122 ponies and 128 pound-feet.

Not to mention, this would give Indian solid bragging rights against Harley-Davidson. After all, the Street Glide and Road Glide have only 105 horsepower. Even the CVO models–with the new Milwaukee-Eight 121 engine–manage 115 horsepower.

Indian’s New Touring Lineup Will Debut On January 24, 2025

Even with these details, there are many question marks. For instance, we don’t know whether Indian’s touring lineup will receive a visual overhaul to match the new engine. Or whether the bikes will finally ditch analog dials in favor of a fully digital setup. We also don’t know whether the Challenger and Pursuit will come with the 112 engine. The answers to all these questions will come on January 24, 2025. Yes, the very next day after Harley-Davidson’s announcement of its remaining 2025 motorcycles. Exciting, isn’t it?
