Hero MotoCorp Unveils Vida VXZ Electric Motorcycle Design Patent in India, ETAuto
Hero MotoCorp has filed a design patent in India for the Vida VXZ electric motorcycle, signalling that the company is moving closer to a production-ready version of the model first showcased as a concept at EICMA 2025.
The filing, made this year, suggests development work is at an advanced stage. Patent images indicate a street-naked electric motorcycle positioned above Hero’s existing Vida VX2 scooter range and aimed at the premium, higher-performance segment.
Developed with Zero Motorcycles
The Vida VXZ has been developed in collaboration with US-based Zero Motorcycles, Hero MotoCorp’s strategic partner for electric two-wheelers. However, the design does not mirror any current Zero model and is understood to be built on a dedicated platform under the Vida electric brand.
Earlier announcements from Hero indicated that joint products with Zero would target the 350cc-equivalent and above category, with launches expected between 2026 and 2027.
Layout and hardware
Patent drawings reveal a tubular trellis frame with a centrally mounted battery pack occupying the space of a conventional engine. The motorcycle uses upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock, while braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends, including a radial-mounted front disc.
The VXZ rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and adopts a belt-drive system instead of a traditional chain, a layout commonly used in premium electric motorcycles for lower maintenance and quieter operation.
Design cues
Styling elements include a split-seat configuration, compact tail section and a tyre-hugger-mounted number plate and indicators, similar to Hero’s Xtreme 250R. Vida has also filed a separate patent for the headlamp, featuring the brand’s ‘V’ signature lighting with a central projector unit. A digital instrument cluster and a small semi-fairing are visible in the documents.
Specifications yet to be revealed
Hero MotoCorp has not disclosed battery capacity, motor output or range figures for the Vida VXZ. The model is expected to sit above the Vida VX2 scooter and mark Hero’s entry into performance-oriented electric motorcycles.
The patent filing underlines Hero MotoCorp’s push to expand beyond commuter EVs into higher-margin segments as competition intensifies from domestic and global electric two-wheeler makers.
