The H-D Electra Glide Is The 10-Year-Old Touring Motorcycle Worth Buying In 2025

The H-D Electra Glide Is The 10-Year-Old Touring Motorcycle Worth Buying In 2025

The mid twenty-teens were a time of rapid change for the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. This was due largely to the then-new Project Rushmore initiative that saw the factory polling its own buyer base for features they would like to see, and on-boarding that information from the drawing board all the way to fruition. The program went far beyond the usual suggestion-box situation, and it heralded an age of increasing tech levels that culminated in making H-D products more competitive on the world stage than it had been in a long time. The 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic rolled in the sophomore year of Project Rushmore to add those goodies to the already top-shelf touring bike.

To give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle, Kelly Blue Book, Harley-Davidson Marketplace, and my experience as a certified Harley-Davidson mechanic. The information given is current as of the time of this writing.

This 10-Year-Old Harley Still Holds Its Value In 2025

A used Electra Glide Ultra Classic is relatively affordable

Harley-Davidson

Originally, the base model Electra Glide Ultra Classic would set you back $23,249 MSRP for a new Vivid Black model. Depending on which colorway you picked, that starting number could have been as high as $24,549. If you can find one in good condition, you may be looking at around the $16,000 mark, according to Kelly Blue Book. Sales to the public may fetch that much, but if you’re trying to trade one in at a dealership, you can expect to recoup about 12 grand. In looking around in the used marketplace, the $10,000 to $15,000 range is well represented.

Harley Gave the People What They Wanted With The Electra Glide

Via The High Output Twin Cam 103

Harley-Davidson

The people spoke. They wanted more power, and they wanted it without delay, so the factory crammed a High Output Twin Cam 103 into the Electra Glide Ultra Classic to appease the masses. It generated almost 105 pound-feet of torque that maxed out just over halfway through the range, so much of that grunt was available lower in the range. This engine had something to give at all points of the rev range north of idle.

This engine also sported an oil-cooler to shed extra heat and add an extra layer of protection for the engine’s very lifeblood. It also rocked H-D’s integrated Isolated Drive System that essentially introduced rubber parts into the compensating sprocket at the front of the primary drive to lessen the vibrations felt by the rider, especially at lower speeds.

Old-School Looks, Modern Touring Tech Make The Harley Touring Bike A Smart Buy

With premium suspension, ABS, and Project Rushmore tech

The single-spar rigid-backbone frame on the Electra Glide Ultra Classic remained much the same, so the look of it was perfectly in line with family tradition. Air-adjustable rear shocks delivered buttery-smooth support and can be precisely adjusted providing you have the proper tool for the job. If memory serves, it’s a tiny little no-loss air pump complete with a pressure gauge that allows for incremental adjustments. The passenger floorboards are also height-adjustable for comfort.

As for the Project Rushmore goodies, this bike came stock with the Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS that spread and balanced the braking loads between front and rear, then made sure that you don’t wipe out from loss of traction. Dual front brakes and all-around four-pot anchors provided the brakeage. Rushmore also stiffened up the front forks to help prevent undue nose dive on hard braking actions.

It proves Harley listened and built a bike that lasts

H-D hit all the usual design high points, because, of course, it did until the relatively recent resurgence of the long-defunct Indian Motorcycle, The MoCo held a monopoly on American-style tourbikes, and so they didn’t just fit the mold, they made the mold. One of the things people asked for was a top-shelf sound system, so the Electra Glide Ultra Classic rolled with a Boom! Box 4.3 audio system and Bluetooth capability, all piped through a quartet of cones.

So you could definitely bring enough to share with the class. Harley fans also wanted easy access to the bags and Tour-Pak, so these came with a one-touch latch system that work even with gloves on. The Daymaker LED headlight fulfilled yet other riders’ wishes with excellent two-way visibility, day and night. A standard security feature rounded out the package.

When Looking Beyond The Electra Glide, The Ultra Limited Is A Top-Shelf Alternative

With liquid-cooled power, enhanced audio, and heat-ready performance

There were two “Ultra” models in 2015 under the Rushmore initiative, and so the partner to the title bike was the H-D Ultra Limited. It came in its own range of colorways, but largely, it matched the Electra Glide Ultra Classic in structure and features. It carried almost the same engine as its stablemate; the Ultra Limited had the Twin-Cooled version of the H.O. Twin Cam 103 engine that circulated coolant around the exhaust ports with tiny little radiators in the lower fairings to dissipate the waste heat. This element gives it slightly better stamina and performance in hot conditions.

The sound system was also boosted with the Boom! Box 6.5 GT stereo and jukebox media compartment complete with USB plug so you could pipe in your favorite tunes. When new, the Ultra Limited ranged from $26,099 to $27,399 depending on color choice.

The Indian Roadmaster Is The 2015 Rival That Still Challenges The Electra Glide Today

The Roadmaster remains a strong used buy against Harley’s touring icon

I mentioned the newly renewed Indian Motorcycle marque earlier, and I mention it again because the most logical competitor for the title bike would actually be the MY15 Roadmaster. Indian reached into its own storied past for the inspiration behind the Roadmaster, and it is shown in the full-valence front fender that came complete with war bonnet ornament, stretched custom-looking saddlebags, and tan leather covered on the seats and passenger backrest.

Heated grips and seats gave the stock Roadmaster some cold-weather capability that paired well with the batwing front fairing and lower fairings for excellent pilot protection, right up there with the Electra Glide Ultra Classic. Engine torque was comparable as well, and when new, it fetched $26,999 MSRP.
