This Honda Is The Most Exciting Electric Motorcycle Coming In 2026

Electric vehicles are the future, according to the wisdom of today. We’ve been burning fossil fuels for well over a century, but vehicles powered by electrons moving around are simply more efficient for a number of reasons. And whenever you waste less energy when getting work done, it’s better for the planet, right? It also helps that electric motors provide instant torque from the get-go, all the way to the redline.

However, they do have some limitations. The motors and batteries are quite heavy and this can be a problem. It isn’t such a big problem with cars, since this weight is a small percentage of the vehicle’s overall weight, but this has been the main deterrent with motorcycles. You see, motorcycles offer their performance thanks to light weight, and the heavy batteries and electric motors negate that advantage, which is why we haven’t seen too many good, fun electric motorcycles going on sale.

There will be a new kid on the block soon, though, and it comes from the biggest two-wheeler manufacturer in the world: Honda. This bodes well for the two-wheeler EV industry in general, because Honda is slow to act, but when it does, it gets it right more often than not. We think it has the most exciting electric motorcycle coming in 2026.

To give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from authoritative sources such as Honda Powersports.

The Honda WN7 Is The Most Exciting Electric Motorcycle Coming In 2026

Expected Launch: Before The End Of FY 2025

There have been fun electric motorcycles before; we know of Energica and Lightning and their products. However, after a brief period of everything going well, most electric two wheeler companies have shut down, or at least are posting massive losses, like the Livewire brand. Like that last brand, it currently requires a lot of cash to keep the EV business afloat.

Honda is the kind of company that looks twice before they leap, so the launch of the WN7 means that it thinks this is a viable product, either because of battery capacity, performance, or more likely charge times. It promises to be a game changer; Honda has lost the first-mover advantage, so it has thrown its endless resources behind developing a product that can be used as a real alternative to a gas-powered motorcycle. That is why we feel the WN7 is the most exciting electric motorcycle coming in 2025.

Why We Picked The Honda WN7

  • Promises the performance of a middleweight bike
  • CCS2 charging will be a first for two-wheelers
  • Hondas usually deliver on their promises
  • After sales support will not be an issue

Admittedly, there aren’t many details available about the WN7’s engine, but what we do know is what Honda has said about it is that it will have ‘middleweight performance’. Now, that could be the equivalent of anything from the CBR500R to the CBR600RR, but Honda has clarified that somewhat by stating its performance rivals 600cc ICE models in output and 1000cc ICE models in torque. If we use the CB650R E-Clutch as a baseline for the power, that means it should have around 90 horsepower. Taking the CB1000 Hornet SP as the example for torque, we should expect around 80 pound-feet. While the torque is right in the ballpark, the peak output is 18kW. That is nowhere near 600cc middleweight bikes, even though Honda claims the real-world performance of the WN7 is comparable.

Moving on, Honda has said that the EV Fun concept will have ’62 miles of cruising range’, and then updated that figure for the WN7 to 83 miles. This bodes well, because that means in the two years since the concept bike was launched, there have been some advancements, and in a few more years it should catch up to the range of ICE models. In real world use, we expect the WN7 to make up for its low range with the CCS2 charging (the quick charging standard used widely by electric cars today) provided. This allows it to charge from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes — that’s 41.5 miles of range added in that time. At home, you can charge it to full from zero in under 3 hours from a standard outlet.

Street Bike Style, With A Focus On Mass Centralization

The WN7 puts its batteries on either side of where the conventional fuel tank would be, and they go down either side, keeping the weight centralized and low. The recent video has shown that Honda will be retaining the single-sided swingarm, so this will not be a cost-effective product, instead being positioned at the premium end of its segment. There are disc brakes at both ends, with a twin disc setup at the front. The rear wheel has now got a more standard five-bolt hub, rather than the racing-style single center bolt of the concept.

In the same way, the mysterious front wheel hub has, well, mysteriously disappeared, giving way to a more conventional wheel. We don’t expect Honda to go all out and use exotic materials like carbon fiber for what is supposed to be a daily driver. Still, it will in all probability be a lot lighter than we expect it to be, because the engineering that has gone into the WN7 will also go into a couple of other products that are electric and will be launched shortly by Honda.

More Details Incoming

The WN7 has a familiar 5-inch TFT color display, but the graphics will need to be new, seeing as how this is Honda’s first electric bike. We can expect it to offer navigation and Bluetooth connectivity as well, as it connects to Honda’s RoadSync smartphone app. Also, from its premium positioning, it is not a big stretch to assume that regenerative braking will be part of the package. Of course, the CCS2 charger is a really important feature; one that will elevate the WN7 to a truly usable EV.

  • Single-sided swingarm
  • CCS2 charger
  • Truly quick charge time when plugged into standard socket

Honda WN7: What’s Next

A New Dawn For Electric Two Wheelers?

Honda

The US market has significant hurdles for EVs. One is range – distances are a lot longer here, especially between towns or cities. Another is the varying weather conditions. Batteries are far more sensitive to changes in temperature than gasoline engines are. Too hot or too cold, and they simply won’t play nice. However, with Honda getting into the game, there promises to be some giant strides in the segment, because Honda never does anything without extremely careful deliberation. It then proceeds to get it right more often than not. And that is why we’re extremely excited about what the WN7 represents.

While we’ve had quick-charging motorcycles before, with the most notable example being Lightning, the real game changer with the WN7 is the charge time while plugged into a standard outlet. That means that there is no hidden cost of a quick charger to the customer — something which has been accepted all this time. Honda has said it will price it at the equivalent of $17,600, which puts it in Africa Twin territory and far ahead of anything like it in its ICE portfolio. But given that there truly is no additional cost, the WN7 is a game changer because it forces everyone to rethink the need for the customer to either purchase a separate quick charger, or suffer overnight charge times.
