10 Touring Bikes From The 2000s That Are Worth Buying Today

Touring bikes are not usually considered affordable motorcycles. With buyers demanding more comfort features and more power, prices have gone up to well over $20k for a touring bike from a reputable brand. But if you are willing to look at the used market, there are some serious bargains to be had.
By the 00s, manufacturers were already including many of the comfort features we know and love today. With these kinds of motorcycles being such big investments, people also tend to look after them. So even though the mileage might be high, these old touring bikes are well worth a look.
In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources, including official brand websites. Buying a used motorcycle always has an element of risk attached, so please do your research, and proceed with caution. The motorcycles on this list go from oldest to newest.

2004 Ducati Multistrada 1000 DS
Price Range: $3,000 – $5,000
This is where it all started for the Multistrada. Before it transitioned into the world of adventure touring, the original Multi was a pure sport touring bike. It also came with a proven sports bike engine, which made this tall, comfortable bike genuinely fun to ride every day as opposed to once a week in small doses. It retains all the quirks of an older Italian motorcycle, so paying more for a bike that was looked after is worthwhile.

2005 Honda Gold Wing GL1800
Price Range: $9,000 – $11,000
By 2005, Honda had made a whopping 500,000 Gold Wings. Even though they faced stiff competition from other Japanese brands, the introduction of a powerful, yet buttery-smooth flat-six in 2001 kept them well in front. As was always the case, they had a host of comfort features that made riding with a passenger effortless, but it is the mechanical reliability of these bikes that still makes them worth buying today, even with high mileage.

2006 Kawasaki Concours 1000
Price Range: $1,000 – $3,000
This is by no stretch of the imagination the Concours we know and love today. This was a bike developed way back in the 80s and stayed in production right up until 2006. Everything about it is dated, but what it is today is cheap. It offers good wind protection, shaft drive, luggage (that looks like literal luggage), and good power from its proven Ninja-derived inline-4. If you are after “no-frills” touring, this is the bike for you.

2007 BMW K 1200 S
Price Range: $3,000 – $5,000
This might be a divisive inclusion because the K 1200 S was infamously unreliable. Issues were also wide-ranging, so there isn’t one nice little fix that will help, either. The one sentiment remains, and that is the fact that when the bike is working, it is simply one of the best motorcycles of any kind that money can buy. The risk is extremely high though, so proceed with caution.

2008 Victory Vision Tour
Price Range: $6,000 – $8,000
Victory was not able to win over too many fans in what was a fairly brief run. The Vision Tour was supposed to be an ultra-modern take on a full-dress touring bike, but what we got was something rather divisive. Some like the design, and others hate it. For that reason, to the right buyer, this is a bit of a bargain on the used market as it certainly is not short on features.

2008 Harley-Davidson Street Glide
Price Range: $9,000 – $11,000
For those Harley-Davidson fans out there, the 2008 Street Glide represents the best value out of all the Twin Cam touring bikes made in the ’00s. This 96-cubic-inch version made a healthy 93-pound-feet of torque, but you still end up paying more for less compared to the other bikes on this list. Unlike some of those other bikes, spares are easy to find, and a Street Glide will continue to hold its value.

2009 Buell Ulysses XB12XT
Price Range: $2,000 – $4,000
This was the final year that any original Buell was in production. While the company has since been revived, the man himself is no longer involved, and it is just not the same. Like any of the Sportster-powered Buell motorcycles, this is something of an oddball. The XB12XT was arguably one of the strangest, but for those who like being different, this should fit the bill.

2009 Can-Am Spyder GS
Price Range: $3,000 – $5,000
If the Buell is not different enough, then it might be time to consider three wheels as opposed to two. These Rotax-powered bikes are great fun to ride but remain fairly unpopular for obvious reasons. If you like it, it is most certainly worth buying at this price. Just don’t expect anyone else to like it enough to offer what you paid for it once it comes time to resell it.

2009 Yamaha Royal Star Venture S
Price Range: $5,000 – $7,000
Yamaha went all-in on with Star Motors back in the ’00s. Rather ambitious pricing led to weak sales and the eventual demise of the entire lineup. Suffice to say, the overpriced bikes of the 00s are the bargains of today. The Star Venture S has a powerful V4 similar to what you would have found in the old V-Max.

2009 (ish) Honda VFR1200F
Price Range: $7,000 – $9,000
We saved the best for last, but we also need to admit that we are cheating a bit by including it. While some were indeed built in 2009, it was a 2010 model and the listed price reflects that. This is an incredible motorcycle that will eat modern superbikes for breakfast. It is sensationally fast, and yet still comfortable enough to ride across the country. Cannonball Run anyone?
