10 Touring Motorcycles That You Should Buy Used

With the rise and rise of the adventure bike segment, touring bikes of all sizes have become a lot less popular. To be fair, it is understandable; the idea of getting out into the great unknown for an adventure has broad appeal. But, for those of us who know what we want, and going off-road isn’t it, a touring bike makes a good deal more sense.
Today, we are spoiled for choice, with a wide range of fantastic options, but the vast majority are still fairly pricey. That is, unless you are willing to turn to the used market. With the current slump the motorcycle industry finds itself in, it is very much a buyer’s market. So if you are willing to look around a bit, you will find some serious bargains.
In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources, including official brand websites. Buying a used motorcycle always has an element of risk attached, so please do your research and proceed with caution. The motorcycles on this list go from oldest to newest.

2010 Honda VFR1200F
Price Range: $7,000 – $9,000
For some inexplicable reason, Honda threw away decades of R&D when it decided to discontinue the VFR1200F. Compared to some of the newer touring bikes, it doesn’t have all that many features, but it is comfortable, and it is especially fast. With the V4 initially developed for racing, it makes the old VFR something of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This wolf will make most modern superbikes look rather silly.

2012 Harley-Davidson Street Glide
Price Range: $10,000 – $12,000
With the Street Performance kit sold through dealerships, the previous generation Harley-Davidson Street Glide was surprisingly potent. Obviously, this is still a comfort-first kind of motorcycle, but if you are able to find one with this kit already fitted, it adds some much-needed spice to the old bagger. Also, now that it is on the older side, there are also several aftermarket performance options that can extract even more power.

2014 Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring
Price Range: $8,000 – $10,000
With a big emphasis on classic style, the California 1400 Touring will only really appeal to those looking for something a little different. Obviously, it is aimed directly at bikes like the aforementioned Street Glide, but it has one core advantage. Even though it doesn’t have quite as much power, it is a fair bit lighter, and handles well for a big bagger.

2015 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Vaquero
Price Range: $9,000 – $11,000
The Kawasaki Vaquero has remained more or less unchanged for the last decade. So getting a used version for half the price of the new bike certainly makes a degree of sense. It doesn’t pack the same level of features as more modern baggers, but it offers good wind protection, luggage, cruise control, and most importantly, comfort.

2015 Motus MST
Price Range: $13,000 – $15,000*
Sadly, Motus did not last long as a company. It did leave behind one of the very best sport touring bikes money can in fact still buy, though. All these bikes were built by hand in America, using components off the top shelf wherever you look. The transverse V4 was engineered to feel like a V8, and with push-rods and a boatload of torque, we imagine it does a pretty decent job.

2016 MV Agusta Turismo Veloce 800
Price Range: $7,000 – $9,000
If you want, you can go out and buy the new version for $26k. Or if you are willing to take a chance on an exotic Italian bike, you can save a fair bit of money. To say the least, this presents itself as fantastic value for money. Naturally, there is going to be some level of risk involved, but we think it might be worth it.

2019 Yamaha FJR1300 ES
Price Range: $10,000 – $12,000
After recently going out of production, you will likely find some bikes with no miles on them going for around the $13k mark. But, if you are willing to get a slightly older model – with some miles on it – it will cost a lot less. With its origins dating back to the 80s, it is fair to say this is a proven platform, and still has a lot to offer to the right kind of buyer.

2020 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT
Price Range: $24,000 – $26,000
The latest Gold Wing has remained largely unchanged since 2018, aside from a few tweaks here and there. Normally, we would say it’s a Honda and reliability is a given, but the latest Gold Wing has been subject to a few recalls, and if the deal looks too good to be true, it might be worthwhile following up on what work has or has not been done. It is still a Gold Wing, and offers unparalleled luxury, for a price.

2022 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak
Price Range: $20,000 – $22,000
The Multistrada range is certainly able to cover all its bases. There is literally a Multi for every kind of rider, from adventure enthusiasts to those looking for a comfortable sports bike on stilts. Indeed, the Pikes Peak version is precisely that: a tall, comfy sports bike. You can go out and buy the 2024 model – which is still on sale – for around $30k, or save up to $10k on something with a few miles on the clock.

2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT
Price Range: $15,000 – $17,000
This one surprised us a little. KTM still has this available for $20,599 brand new, but if you are willing to consider a used bike with maybe a couple of thousand miles on the clock, you can save up to $5k. This is a motorcycle that offers every conceivable touring feature, from electronic suspension to cruise control, not to mention one of the craziest V-twins ever made. It is a fun bike, and an absolute bargain at this price.
