A Crazy Electric Supermoto With A NOS Button

Summary

  • The DAB Motors 1a is a new all-electric supermoto from France, featuring luxury design and impressive performance numbers.
  • With a top speed of 81 mph and 93 miles of range, the DAB 1a also includes a unique ‘NOS’ button for extra power bursts.
  • Limited to just 400 units worldwide and priced at ~$15,990, the DAB 1a is a premium option for supermoto enthusiasts.

With government laws suggesting full electrification in less than a decade, the European market constantly treats us with bamboozling electric motorcycles. The 150-HP Italian Volt Lacama naked and the bonkers 200-HP Verge TS Ultra are both prime examples, along with the world-renowned Energica Ego RS. Now, there’s another bike joining the list: the DAB Motors 1a. It comes straight out of France, with the aim to be an all-electric supermoto like no other. There’s a lot to like here, even including a nifty ‘NOS’ (Nitrous Oxide) button. Let’s dive in.

The DAB Motors 1a Has A Stripped-Back Yet Premium Design

One look at the 1a, and it ticks all the right supermoto boxes. There’s a square fascia, bejeweled with a petite LED headlight. This is followed by a flat, monocoque-ish middle section, featuring a slim motocross-like saddle. The tail completes the minimalistic charm, courtesy of the distinct tail lamp and sleek swingarm-mounted plate holder.

The highlight, however, has to be the impeccable attention to detail. The tire huggers have been carved from recycled carbon fiber, sourced from none other than Airbus. Then, there’s the Alcantara saddle cover–something that’s rather rare on electric motorcycles. Once aboard the seat, you’re greeted by a premium TFT instrument cluster and a small glovebox. The latter has dual USB ports charging your essentials. We also love the spoke wheels and golden touches on the suspension.

Coming to performance, the DAB 1a employs a brushless 25.5kW motor that produces a whopping 290 pound-feet of torque. All of it is instantly sent to the wheel via a single-speed transmission, promising a top speed of 81 miles per hour. Add to this the 275-pound weight, and you’re looking at some strong performance.

There are four ride modes to control the output, namely Eco, Standard, and Sport, along with the party trick: the nifty NOS button. This is an homage to old-school Need For Speed games, which had a NOS button to boost performance. Same way, press it here, and you’ll get a surge in power for a few seconds. Battery-wise, you get a 7.1kWh Li-ion setup that’s recyclable and repairable. It promises 93 miles of maximum range and a charge time of three hours from zero to 100. Level 2 chargers are also compatible, although there’s no charging time for that yet.

Like all else, the underpinnings are nothing short of impressive. You get fully adjustable 46 mm USD forks and a monoshock with gold treatment, sourced from Paioli. This is topped by 17-inch spoke wheels, shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 rubber. A 320 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc round off the braking setup, both bit by Brembo calipers. Oh, and dual-channel ABS is a standard inclusion, too.

It’s also a good time to talk about the riding triangle. Being a supermoto, the saddle height is quite high at 34.6 inches. So if you’re short, you should opt for the optional 33-inch accessory seat. The pegs, meanwhile, are centrally positioned and have a toothed pattern to provide ample grip. All this, along with the Renthal Fatbar and CNC machined controls, ensure an upright riding position. Perfect for normal riding, hooning, and even sliding around.

The DAB Moto 1a is the company’s first production model yet. It’s built by DAB’s new owners–Peugeot–in Europe, without any secret Chinese association like most EVs. So DAB wants the 1a to be special, and that’s why it’s been limited to just 400 units worldwide. Each one sells for ~$15,990 in Europe, making it somewhat of a rival to the $12,995 Zero FXE.

You can have the supermoto in two colors–black or silver–and the company can customize things to your liking as well. The only sad part, meanwhile, is that there’s no news on when or if this will reach American shores. It would be an excellent option for budding supermoto fans in America, primarily because it has better components and swagger than similar EVs available here. So if any DAB employee is reading this, you know what to do!
