2025 BMW 4 Series: What’s New

Offered as a coupe, a “Gran Coupe” four-door fastback, and a convertible, the 2025 BMW 4 Series range receives even more updates than 3 Series sedan. Exterior changes include new headlights and grille surrounds with a matte chrome finish. M440i models now have a black high-gloss grille with an M logo, trapezoidal tailpipe trim with a black high-gloss finish, and a carbon-fiber Gurney lip rear spoiler. Further customization options arrive in the form of new 19-inch wheel designs with a number of finishes. If you option the M Carbon Exterior package, BMW equips mirror caps for the twin-stalk M side mirrors, carbon fiber-reinforced plastic inserts for the outer air intakes. Cape York metallic and Vegas Red paint are now available as paint colors.

On 430i and M440i models, BMW updated both four- and six-cylinder engine options with 48V mild hybrid assistance. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine now uses Miller cycle combustion as well as redesigned intake ports and combustion chambers among other refinements. Power output remains the same as the prior model. However, the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six now cranks out 386 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 4 hp and 29 lb-ft.

The latest version of BMW’s infotainment system is now standard on all 4 Series models, consolidating climate controls and the steering wheel heater to the touchscreen, although voice commands can perform the same function. Although those features are now digital, there are new physical toggles to modulate the air vents. Augmented View now supports navigation. Ambient lighting is revised, with contour lighting embedded into the trim and around the central vents. New steering wheel designs include a hexagonal design as standard and a flat-bottom design is equipped on M Sport variants. Seating is more customizable than before with a new Black Vernasca leather option with a Coral Red highlight.

High-performance M4 variants of the 4 Series receive a similarly extensive raft of updates. All 2025 BMW M4 Competition models develop an extra 20 hp for a total output of 523 hp. New headlights, with integrated low- and high-beams in the same LED module, are now standard. The BMW roundel badge now receives a high-gloss surround, and the M badge on the trunk is trimmed in silver, helping differentiate the current M4 with the pre-refresh variant. BMW offers further customization with M graphics for the hood and trunk. A new staggered wheel design with a bright silver finish joins the range of exterior options. Inside the M4, a flat-bottom steering wheel is standard, while Finely Polished Aluminum trim is available. BMW revised the Sensatec upholstery with a finer grain to make it feel more luxurious to the touch. All of the climate control and infotainment updates applied to the regular 4 Series also make their way into the M4.

At the top of the 2025 BMW M4 range, there’s the M4 CS. Lighter, sharper, and more powerful than lesser versions of BMW’s coupe, the Competition Sport model churns out 543 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque from its twin-turbocharged I-6 engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard. BMW upped the rigidity of the coupe’s bushings, mounts, and braces to increase the viscerality of M4 CS. A carbon-intensive diet, titanium exhaust components, and carbon-fiber buckets drop the curb weight by 77 pounds. BMW offers the 2025 M4 CS with exclusive paint colors, gold wheels, yellow-tinted LED headlights, and frameless kidney grilles. Pricing starts at $124,675.
