Donald Trump’s car collection has a UK luxury car and a 200mph McLaren
One of the most divisive figures in politics, Donald Trump’s long history as a businessman and politician means he has accumulated a significant collection of interesting cars.
1988 Cadillac Trump:
Perhaps one of the most unique models previously owned by the former US President is the 1988 Cadillac Trump, a unique limousine he commissioned to be the ultimate luxury car.
Two examples were built for Donald Trump, each featuring a powerful 5.0-litre engine and plenty of luxuries the typical 1980s businessperson needed, including a paper shredder, fax machine and well-stocked drinks cabinet.
Curiously, one of the Cadillac Trumps, believed to have been mostly used by the politician’s father, Fred Trump, was imported to the UK in 1991 and was sold in 2017 for an advertised price of £50,000.
1956 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud:
Another extremely luxurious model that Donald Trump owns was a 1956 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, which is believed to be one of the first cars he got behind the wheel of.
Built between 1955 and 1958, the first-generation Rolls Royce Silver Cloud was one of the most expensive vehicles built in the UK at the time, with a retail price of £4,796 – £156,000 in today’s money.
Whilst Donald Trump was unlikely to have paid that much for the car when he purchased it in the 1980s, classic car experts state that similar examples typically fetch up to £90,000 today.
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren:
Nevertheless, Donald Trump’s car collection does not stop at large and slow luxury vehicles, with the politician owning plenty of high-performance models as well.
One of the most powerful vehicles in Donald Trump’s fleet is a Mercedes SLR McLaren, a grand tourer featuring a supercharged V8 that can produce 617bhp.
Whilst this means the SLR is capable of reaching speeds of up to 207mph, its gullwing doors and incredibly striking front end, featuring references to various Formula One models, means it looks good at any speed.
Tesla Roadster:
During his time as President, Donald Trump regularly stated his thoughts that electric vehicles do not work and would harm the US motor industry. As a result, it may come as a surprise to learn that he previously owned a Tesla Roadster.
The first model built by the Elon Musk-owned company, the Roadster was a small sportscar that was heavily based on the Lotus Elise.
Whilst it is unknown what happened to the example owned by Donald Trump, used examples of the Tesla Roadster are currently worth up to £120,000.
