EP Manufacturing, Blueshark Launch Local Assembly Of SoloEra Electric Motorcycles

EP Blueshark Sdn Bhd (EP Blueshark), a subsidiary of Bursa-listed EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB), together with electric vehicle (EV) company Blueshark Malaysia Sdn Bhd, has begun local assembly of the SoloEra Solo 1C electric motorcycle at EPMB’s Glenmarie facility.

The move aligns with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the country’s net zero ambitions. The Glenmarie plant has an initial production capacity of 12,000 units annually, with assembly of the higher-performance Solo 2 and Solo 3 models already underway.

The local assembly marks a strategic step in positioning Malaysia as a hub for two-wheeled EV manufacturing in ASEAN. The announcement was made during a site visit attended by officials from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), the Malaysia Automotive Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii), Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd (MIDF), PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd (PDB) and Blueshark.

YBhg. Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Deputy Secretary General (Industry) of MITI, said: “I congratulate EPMB and Blueshark on this breakthrough achievement, which sets the stage for 2WEV adoption in Malaysia and the region. The mass production of advanced EV vehicles by EPMB, a local automotive manufacturer, in partnership with Blueshark, will be pivotal in driving Malaysia towards its NETR and vehicle electrification targets.”

Azrul Reza Aziz, CEO of MARii, highlighted the role of national incentives in boosting adoption, noting that initiatives like the MARiiCas rebate programme make electromobility more attainable for Malaysians.

The Solo 1C has already generated over 6,000 registrations of interest within just over a month following its limited pre-launch promotion in July, priced from RM599. Collaborations with Mesra Rewards, Setel and MARiiCas rebates helped accelerate demand.

Aidan Hamidon, Executive Director of EPMB, said, “We are thrilled to announce the start of production of SoloEra electric motorcycles at our Glenmarie facility. EPMB continues to make strides towards energy-efficient vehicle production and advancing next-generation mobility solutions.”

Jeff Chong, CEO of Blueshark Malaysia, added, “Together with our strategic partners EPMB and PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd, we are committed to expanding Malaysia’s electromobility ecosystem while establishing the country as a manufacturing hub for ASEAN and beyond.”

PETRONAS Dagangan BHD’s COO, Azureen Azita Abdullah, said the partnership will help expand electric two-wheelers and related energy solutions nationwide.

The SoloEra series aims to ease the transition from internal combustion engine motorcycles to electric vehicles, supporting the government’s goal of 20% electrified vehicles by 2030.
