More Tech, More Features, More Everything

The 2025 Ford Expedition is all-new with fresh technology, improved capability, and new features all designed to make family life easier when you’re on the road. This full-size SUV has seating for up to eight people and has been a family favorite for nearly 30 years. It’s Ford’s flagship SUV, sitting above the Explorer as an option for families who want more room for people and the ability to handle plenty of cargo.

It’s changed a lot over the years as how we use our cars continues to evolve. Ford talked to its customers and asked them what they think makes a good SUV. They collected over 1,100 hours of customer feedback and then incorporated that feedback into what looks to be the best version of the Expedition yet.

The Ford Digital Experience Is An Infotainment Upgrade

Take a seat behind the wheel and the tech upgrades are the first thing you’ll notice. The Ford Digital Experience includes a 24-inch panoramic display that serves as the instrument cluster. Rather than being mounted close to the steering wheel, it’s pushed further back toward the lower edge of the windshield. It’s part of the continuing evolution of infotainment systems, keeping the driver’s eyes closer to the road when they glance down to check the display. The top of the steering wheel is also slightly flattened to ensure that it won’t get in the way of that view.

The infotainment system includes a 13.2-inch touchscreen mounted in the center of the dashboard within easy reach of the driver and front passenger. It even has a little finger perch so you can rest your hand as you use the screen. Designed to prioritize voice control via Google Assistant, it also accommodates Alexa Built-in and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity is available for up to 10 devices covering a 50-foot radius from the vehicle, which makes it easier to stay connected when camping or for those weekend tailgaters. An available Connectivity Package lets you decide how you want to stay connected in your Expedition. Choose a one-time purchase when you initially order your vehicle and the cost can be bundled in with your financing. Alternatively, there’s a one-year complimentary subscription that can be turned into an annual subscription at the end of that first year.

Experience BlueCruise Hands-Free With Wider Availability

More customers than ever will have the opportunity to experience BlueCruise hands-free driving in the new Expedition. Availability of this feature now covers roughly 90 percent of the lineup with the hardware available on Platinum, King Ranch, Tremor, and Active models. This is the latest version of BlueCruise, which exhibits more natural driving characteristics for a smoother ride. It includes In-Lane Repositioning, which subtly moves the Expedition away from vehicles in the neighboring lanes to eliminate the sense that other vehicles are too close.

There’s also Lane Change Assist, which the driver activates by engaging the turn signal. The system then ensures that there’s space to make the lane change before smoothly moving into the next lane. Once again, Ford is offering multiple ways to pay for BlueCruise. It can be a one-time purchase to bundle it into your financing package or there’s a 90-day trial followed by a yearly or monthly subscription fee. This makes it easy to activate only when you need it, like during the busy summer travel season, and then deactivate when road trips aren’t so frequent.

A New Split Liftgate Adds Versatility

The split liftgate is the first of its kind in the segment. There’s a top three-quarter liftgate that moves up as usual combined with a lower one-quarter gate that flips down. You can choose to open them both simultaneously depending on how you program the key fob, or you can choose to open each separately as needed. This change makes a huge difference in the Expedition’s versatility for family life.

Open only the top portion for those times when whatever you’re stowing might have moved around while you’re driving and could be at risk of rolling right out. That lower gate creates a stop, so the groceries don’t tumble out into the driveway. Once you do fold down the lower gate, it’s level with the load floor creating the perfect spot to have a seat to watch the kids at practice or a game. Yes, you can actually sit there and so can a friend as it can hold up to 600 pounds. If it’s dark, don’t worry. You’ll still have plenty of light thanks to the available exterior zone lighting that illuminates four zones around the Expedition.

The Flexibility To Manage Cargo And People

In a nifty trick, the available cargo management system includes a built-in table that morphs into a seatback for the lower gate. This flat platform tucks below the cargo area so it’s completely out of the way when not in use. Lift the cargo floor cover and simply slide out the platform as needed. It snaps in at the midpoint of the cargo area to create a cargo shelf or table and folds out to become wider with little deployable legs as support. It then folds down and sits on its edge to create the perfect seatback anytime you’re sitting on the lower gate.

A Third Row Designed To Allow Longer Items

There’s plenty of room in the Expedition for stowing cargo with something a little different for when it comes time to stow longer items. The available flexible third row makes it easy to fit skis or fishing rods. It split-folds 40/20/40 so you can still seat two people back there and just flip the middle seat. Combined with either the captain’s chairs or a 40/20/40 second row, items can slide all the way up to rest on the center console. Ford even made the edge of the center console durable plastic, so you don’t need to worry about scratching it when you slide items into place.

The Power Center Console Hides Additional Storage

Another clever bit of storage is hidden in the center console up front. There’s the usual spot for wireless charging, a couple of cupholders, and a deep storage area beneath the console lid. There are also buttons that power slide the console front to back by eight inches. In the rearward position, this reveals a storage area up front that’s large enough to hold a purse and keep it safely stowed, completely out of sight and out of the way. In the rearward position, it also puts the cupholders on the back of the console and the rear climate and audio controls within easy reach of those in the second row.

Digital Device Holders Make It Easy To Entertain The Kids

Rather than having a second-row entertainment system, the Expedition makes it easy to use your own devices to stream whatever content you choose. In addition to a USB charging port built into the backs of the front seats, there are digital device holders built into the backs of the headrests. These clips easily pop out to secure everything from a tablet to a smartphone, keeping it at eye level and letting you go hands-free.

The First Ford Expedition Tremor

This year, the Expedition gets the off-road treatment with a Tremor trim, which is already available for other vehicles, including the F-150. This is the most capable version of the Expedition that Ford has ever offered. While the standard powertrain in the Expedition is a 3.5-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, the Tremor gets a high-output version of that engine with 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. It also has re-tuned suspension and electric power-assisted steering systems. Style-wise, it gets bright Electric Space orange accents on the wheels and front fascia as well as orange tow hooks. Inside, there’s embroidered Tremor badging on the front seats with matching orange contrast stitching.

Four-wheel drive is standard along with Trail 1-Pedal, Trail Turn Assist, and a Rock Crawl drive mode for rugged terrain. There are 10.6 inches of ground clearance, 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires, off-road auxiliary lights behind the grille, and Raptor-style running boards to make climbing inside easy. A front skid plate and underbody protection for the front axle, transfer case, and fuel tank are the final touches to help you tackle more challenging terrain with confidence. Overall, the Expedition provides a raft of technological, cosmetic, and practical improvements that are sure to appeal to a variety of buyers. Hopefully, pricing keeps it competitive with the recently updated Chevrolet Tahoe.
