Peugeot 103 nameplate revived for lightweight electric motorcycle

A famous name from the Peugeot motorcycles’ back catalogue is set to be revived in 2026, as the model 103 moped gets a 2026 makeover and electric power.

The bike is inspired by the hugely popular Peugeot mopeds of the ’70s and ’80s. Nicknamed “pedal-and-pop” bikes, thanks to them requiring the rider to power them along with pedals before engaging the two-stroke engine. They helped to mobilise continental Europe at the end of the last century, and proved hugely popular with the public. The bikes have gone on to become cult automotive icons, with machines of the era from the likes of Peugeot, Puch, and Tomos now highly sought after by collectors.

The bikes boasts a TFT dash and removable batteries

The new 103 borrows from the recently revealed SPx concept, borrowing its battery and controller, frame and motor. In 2026, the 103 is reported to be heading straight into the city, with a 50cc equivalent boasting a 1.6 kWh battery, which is said to be good for around 30 miles, and a 125cc equivalent, 2.2 kWh battery option, which is reported to have around 40 miles of autonomy.

Both versions feature an aluminium monocoque frame, Kayaba forks at the front and a monoshock with a linkage at the rear. The batteries of each version are also removable, meaning they can be carried into a home or office for charging off the bike if required.

No performance specs for the bikes have been published at this time, although we’d expect the smaller battery bike to be good for around 30mph, with the larger option potentially able to top the heady heights of 45 or 50mph. With those speeds in mind, it’s clear that both of these bikes are going to be more at home in a big city than they are on the open road.

Two battery options will be available

Another aspect that we don’t know at the time of writing, is the price. We can tell you that in a move to keep the costs down, both of the bikes are being built in France, though. Given that the original 103 was a cheap and cheerful way of mobilising a nation, we’d expect Peugeot to try and keep the cost of the new electric 103 as cheap as possible. We expect to find out more about the bikes as we move into 2026.
