Royal Enfield unveils The Flying Flea C6: A new era of electric motorcycles

Mid-weight motorcycle maker Royal Enfield Monday took the covers off electric motorcycle, The Flying Flea C6, the first in a series of electric vehicles the company plans to launch under the newly minted brand.The fully electric motorcycle – available for retail in the spring of 2026 – will be priced at a premium to electric scooters available in the market today. The company is yet to decide on the country in which it will launch the vehicle sometime in the next fiscal year, but said it will be the first of many products which will be introduced under the Flying Flea brand.

Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director, Eicher Motors, said, “We believe in this as a starting point of a family, that is going to grow. We are going to keep at it as we go doggedly…keep evolving, keep changing but with this concept and idea in mind.” The company will also introduce EVs under Royal Enfield brand, Lal clarified.

Lal said the company has 28 patents for the electric motorcycle, batteries and motors for which have been designed internally. The cells for the battery though will be sourced by Royal Enfield.

“This is a significant step in our evolution as a brand and an opportunity for us to distil the essence of Royal Enfield DNA combined with all the great benefits of EV technology and bring something absolutely delightful and differentiated to the world of city-plus mobility”, Lal informed.

Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan said the company has been “deeply” investing in R&D and infrastructure for EV over the last many years, and have built a world-class team including 200 plus engineers in India and the UK. The company has initiated the development of an EV manufacturing plant in Chennai (Tamil Nadu).Royal Enfield has invested in Barcelona-based Stark Future known for its advanced off-road electric motorcycles, he said. “All aspects of our connected electric motorcycles, including product strategy and development, technical components like motor, battery, BMS, custom software, and our retail and market strategy have been developed in-house by our dedicated technical and commercial teams,” Govindarajan said.

Royal Enfield currently leads the middle weight bike segment globally.
