‘That’s awesome’ cry drivers after finding hidden feature with secret cam to check blind spot
DRIVERS are just learning about a hidden feature that could prove life-saving for the lucky motorists that have it.
The feature was posted on social media and dazzled viewers who claim the snazzy little feature is “absolutely brilliant”.
The video was posted by Auto Trader UK’s official TikTok channel, and as it plays viewers are treated to a hands-on tutorial of how to use the secret blind-spot camera.
As the video starts, a woman can be seen driving a Hyundai Kona Electric while announcing the feature, and how it works.
She says: “So there is a very neat little feature that Hyundai does very well, that’s the blind spot detection camera.”
The camera then zooms in on the dashboard and as the driver indicates right or left, a screen on the dashboard shows a pesky blind spot that petrol-heads would usually have to physically turn around to look at.
The driver continues: “Awesome, huh?”
The official name for the fancy feature is the Blind-Spot View Monitor, and for those that have the motor in the video but have no idea how to use it – or that it even exists – Hyundai has explained how to do it on their Youtube channel.
In the video, drivers are told that the first thing they need to do to use the feature is hit ‘SETUP’ which is a physical button just to the left of the stereo volume control.
Then when the setting pops up on the car’s screen, press ‘vehicle’ and then ‘driver assistance’, and finally ‘driving safety’.
Then tap the tab next to ‘Blind-Spot View Monitor’ to turn it on.
There is however one scenario where the image won’t pop up – and that’s if your hazard lights are on at the same time.
In the car company’s promotional video, the narrator says: “Plenty of vehicles have sensors to check your blind-spots, but Hyundai’s available Blind-Spot View Monitor goes a step further.
“It puts an image of your blind spot on the instrument cluster right in front of you whenever you use your turn signal to change lanes.”
Drivers were over the moon with the clever feature, and quickly jumped in the comments to throw in their thoughts on the life-saving camera.
One user said: “This is absolutely brilliant.”
And second user wrote: “I’m researching these for my mom as this is one of the cars she likes. The features just keep getting better.”
And for those that want to know if their vehicle has the same option, Hyundai is not the only car company that offers it, and it’s good news for Nissan, Toyota, Honda and Kia owners.
