Toyota driver unveils hidden console feature in brand new car after experimenting – & it helps with using parking meters

A TOYOTA driver has discovered a useful feature hiding in her brand new car – and it will help with using parking meters.

Alicia struggled to find the utility of the dashboard addition in her RAV4, but other drivers were able to help her out.

In a now-viral TikTok clip, Alicia (@scallopmoon) showed off a tiny storage compartment by her gear shift and questioned what could possibly fit inside.

Sitting in the driver’s seat, she tested everyday items like her key fob and a bottle of hand sanitizer.

Neither fit properly in the small, narrow space near the gear shift, leaving her even more confused.

Running out of options, she decided to drop in a small seashell.

To her surprise, it was a perfect fit.

She gave a thumbs-up to the camera, jokingly approving the seashell as the compartment’s best use.

“Ummmm,” she captioned the video, summing up her confusion.

The clip quickly went rival, racking up 5 million views and 136,000 likes as Toyota drivers debated the bin’s intended purpose.

Over 2,000 people commented on their ideas, but most drivers agreed it was probably meant to store coins.

One person finally said, “coins hunny… it’s for coins.”

“I use it for my Aldi quarter,” added another.

“Coins for parking that’s what I do,” one more commented.

“All the spare change you find in your couch,” said another.

While the coins will help with getting a grocery cart from Aldi, keeping quarters at arm’s length can also make using parking meters a breeze.

Meanwhile, others said it was for cards or parking tickets.

“Some sauce for the nuggets,” said one person.

Another commented, “I think the key was right but upside down.”

“Flip the key upside-down, I think,” one person suggested in comments.

“I have the same car, and I’ve never figured out what to put there,” one person commented.

Little-known Car Features

How often do you look at features on your vehicle and not know why they are there? Here are some answers:

Gas Tank Locator:

  • Drivers may or may not have noticed the small arrow next to the gas symbol on the dash.
  • This indicates which side of the vehicle has the gas tank so you don’t need to stretch the hose over the car or get out of your vehicle to check before parking at a pump.

Road Condition Indicator:

  • A snowflake icon might flash up on your dashboard when driving in cold weather.
  • This informs drivers that temperatures outside are cold enough for the roads to freeze.

Secret Key:

  • Vehicles that come with a key fob that uses buttons to open the doors often have a secret key for emergencies.
  • On that one day that the fob battery runs out, drivers can often find a manual key contained inside the fob.
  • There is often a button to press or a cap to slide off to reveal it.

Another joked, “Toyota out here designing storage for seashell collectors.”

Toyota’s RAV4 is a fan-favorite SUV, praised for its roomy design and dependability.

Manufacturers include small storage spaces for convenience, though their exact use isn’t always clear.

For now, Alicia has turned the mystery slot into a personal keepsake holder.
