An ‘Ultra’ Luxurious Harley-Davidson Street Glide Is Coming In 2025

In 2023, Harley-Davidson kickstarted a new chapter for its Grand American Touring lineup. The CVO range received a massive overhaul, followed by a similar revamp for the non-CVO Street Glide and Road Glide. Naturally, we’ve been wondering whether this treatment will eventually drip down to other bikes, and there’s finally a concrete answer now. It comes via official Harley-Davidson filings in Australia and America.

The Australian filings comprise the type-approval models for Harley’s road-going range. These include a new FLHXU model under the “FLH” range, alongside the usual suspects like the FLHX, FLHXS, FLHXST, and FLHR. Considering the FLHX is the Street Glide, it’s easy to understand FLHXU would be the Street Glide Ultra.

Another mention of the same Ultra model comes from Harley’s American parts listing. The company mentions its polished front rotor to fit ’06-’17 VRSC™ and Dyna® and ’08-later Touring (except ’23-later FLHXSE, FLTRXSE, ’24-later FLHX, FLTRX, ’24 FLTRXSTSE and ‘25-later FLHXU) and Trike models. That’s enough information to confirm there is a new heavyweight Harley coming our way next year.

The ‘Ultra’ tag is given to Harley-Davidsons that flaunt big-rig touring setups such as Tour-Pak top boxes, plush passenger backrests, and other upgrades catered for long-haul riding. Currently, this lineup comprises the Tri Glide Ultra and Ultra Limited whereas we’ve also seen a Road Glide Ultra in the past. So the upcoming motorcycle would be the first Street Glide-based model in the lineup.

We expect it to follow the same brief as the Road Glide Ultra. That means it would take the Street Glide’s package, add a Tour-Pak top box with extra passenger comforts, and bring in touring-oriented bits like air deflectors and hard lowers near the legs. You should know Harley recently patented new Tour-Pak top boxes, too, which–we believe–would debut on the new Ultra.

Considering all the above-mentioned parts add weight, you can expect the Ultra to have a different engine. The Milwaukee-Eight 117 could make way for the Milwaukee-Eight 121. Or we could see the 117 in a different state of tune to lug around the extra heft. We don’t expect any overhauls to the suspension setup, though. Some key specs of the Street Glide are given below for reference.

So when can you expect Harley-Davidson to launch the FLHXU? While we don’t have a concrete answer, we can tell you the MoCo tends to reveal its new lineup early in the year. Both the MY23 and MY24 bikes broke cover in January, and it should be the same story in 2025. Whenever it’s here, though, the new Ultra will face tough competition from both Japanese and American brands.

2025 Harley-Davidson FLHXU Expected Rivals

  • Honda Gold Wing Tour
  • Indian Roadmaster
  • Indian Pursuit
  • BMW R 18 Transcontinental
  • BMW K 1600 GTL
