Honda planning to launch Yamaha Aerox 155 rival: Here’s what we know – Bike News

Honda has previously patented other 160cc maxi scooters in India like Vario 160, CG 160 Start, and Stylo 160, but none of them have launched yet.

Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India (HMSI) is the second-largest two-wheelers manufacturer in the country with a wide range of scooters and motorcycles. With the Indian two-wheeler market gradually warming up to premium machines, OEMs have started focussing on developing more premium models.

Honda too has started to focus on more premium two-wheelers particularly motorcycles in the Big Wing range. The Japanese auto giant is now planning to add a new scooter to its range of premium two-wheelers. The company has filed patents for the PCX 160 scooter in India that will go up against the likes of Yamaha Aerox, Aprilia SXR 160, and the recently-launched Hero Xoom 160.

Honda PCX 160: Design

Although a mere patent application doesn’t guarantee a market launch for a product, it does certify that Honda is keen on exploring the option of bringing the PCX 160 to India. Like its prospective rivals mentioned above, the PCX 160 gets a Maxi-style design with an extensive front apron and large central transmission tunnel instead of flat footboard of a traditional scooter.

The front apron gets a large twin-LED headlamp cluster along with a V-shaped LED DRL giving the scooter an intimidating front look. The headlamp cluster is headlined by a long and adjustable windscreen. It gets a single-piece with a stepped-up pillion section. Other notable visual highlights include an upswept exhaust muffler, a single-piece grab rail, and alloy wheels.

Honda PCX 160: Features & Specs

Features like LED lighting, a spacious underseat storage, keyless ignition, and fully-digital LCD instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity are expected to be offered with the PCX 160. The patent image also indicates the inclusion of adjustable clutch and brake levers. In terms of hardware, the underbone chassis of the PCX 160 is suspended on front telescopic forks and twin rear shock absorbers.

The maxi scooter rolls on 14-inch front and 13-inch rear alloy wheels. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends aided by dual-channel ABS. Powering the PCX160 is a 157cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 15.8 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 14.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission.
